Favoured pennant teams do best in blustery conditions

The script has been written after all favoured teams were victorious in blustery conditions across town on Saturday for the final round of senior A Metropolitan pennant series.

The St Clair Saints finished at the top and will host Chisholm Links next weekend. The winner is guaranteed to play a Balmacewen team with both the B52s and Bombers facing each other in the other semifinal.

At Balmacewen the Saints came out on top in a tight affair 3.5-3.5 over the B52s where three games resulted in halved matches.

But big wins to Saints players Parker Aluesi and Jacoby Bellamy proved to be the difference before the halved matches were added to the tally with Lewis Harper (B52s) and Andrew Hobbs halving with Tony Giles and Logan Clarke respectively.

The result was secured when Jakob Bleach (Saints) turned 1 up on the 18th tee against Mat Weir before Weir claimed the hole to halve the match.

On the other side of the course the Bombers secured second place with a 4-2 win over Chisholm Links but it was the Links who struck first blood with Jason Pegler defeating Tom Griffin 7/6.

Brandon Hodgson defeated Kai Koni to level up the scores before wins to the Bombers tail secured three wins via Luke Murdoch and Ryan Rosevear.

Duncan Croudis fought back from a 3-down margin through nine holes to defeat John McIntee on the final green to secure the win before Links No 1 Mike Weastell defeated Ben Patston 1up.

At Waldronville, Taieri Lakes practically needed a clean sweep to avoid the wooden spoon but Island Park’s lineup proved too strong with a 4-2 victory to ultimately finish one win short of a semifinal appearance.

Parks tail cruised to wins through Phil Bungard and Kade Haley-Broderick before Park greenkeeper Michael Minty defeated Blair Bennett 5/4.

Monty Wong secured the win for the home side defeating Jaxon Boyes 4/2 while Jarrod Mitchell and Ken Shaw added consolation wins in the middle order for the visitors.
