Mikaela Greig gets to be a fulltime cricketer for "the first time ever".

The Central Districts all-rounder has had a taste of international cricket — she made her T20 international debut against England in Dunedin in March — and now she is getting to tour England with the White Ferns.

She is part of a 16-strong touring party that will contest three ODIs and five T20s.

The first ODI starts at midnight (New Zealand time).

"It is awesome to be a part of the group and cracking into fulltime training for the first time ever," she said.

"It is a really exciting time to be part of the group."

Greig was initially overlooked for selection. But when pace bowler Rosemary Mair was ruled out with a back injury, Greig had to suddenly do some shuffling to get everything organised so she could go on her first tour.

"The call-up was a bit of a late one. It was only a couple of weeks out, so obviously working fulltime outside of cricket makes that a little bit hard.

"But I was very lucky with work letting me come over, so I had a couple of weeks which was a crazy time trying to get everything sorted."

Greig works for Beef and Lamb New Zealand. She organises events to help upskill and support farmers.

When she got the news from White Ferns coach Ben Sawyer, she was busy trying to organise about 60 farmers with "one bar worth of [phone] service".

International cricket should be a breeze after that.

Greig has played alongside White Ferns seamer Hannah Rowe for about 15 years at different levels and it was "pretty special" to be able to play together internationally.

"We’ve sort of been through everything together and she is also my bridesmaid coming up, which is quite cool, so we can do a bit of wedding planning on tour."

Greig plans to push herself and really embrace the opportunity she has to advance her cricket.

"For me, it is about being able to push myself 100% ... and just completely immerse myself and try to be a bit of a sponge in every way I can."
