Three from three for Blacks Sticks men

Both Black Sticks teams are flying after wins at their respective Nations Cup tournaments yesterday.

The New Zealand men made it three from three in Poland as they beat South Africa 2-1.

Otago veteran Hugo Inglis gave the Black Sticks the ideal start when he scored his first goal of the tournament, a lovely effort from the field, in the 11th minute.

The South Africans dominated chunks of the second quarter and had a couple of penalty corners but could not convert.

Scott Boyde made it 2-0 for the Black Sticks with a field goal early in the third quarter, but South Africa immediately pulled back a goal from a penalty corner.

The Black Sticks could not convert two penalty corners late in the third quarter.

There was plenty of action but no scoring in the final quarter as the Kiwis held on for victory.

They were playing their final pool game against South Korea this morning.

In Spain, the Black Sticks beat Chile 1-0 in their opening game at the women’s Nations Cup.

It was 0-0 at halftime before Jessie Anderson scored her first international goal, flicking in from a penalty corner.

The Kiwi women were playing Japan this morning.
