A woman has been charged with murder following the death of a 10-year-old girl on Queensland's Gold Coast.
Police were called just after 6pm on Tuesday (local time) to an address at Emerald Lakes in Carrara, where they found the child unresponsive.
Paramedics attempted to revive her but she was declared dead at the scene.
Detectives established a crime scene and blocked entry to the street, launching a homicide investigation.
A 46-year-old woman they say was known to the girl, was located by police nearby about 10.25pm and taken into custody.
She was due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
